
Dr. Robert Corona
Chief Executive Officer, Upstate University Hospital
Robert J. Corona DO, CPE, MBA, FCAP, FASCP is is the chief executive officer of Upstate Medical University Hospitals which includes University Hospital Downtown, Community Hospital and Golisano Children’s Hospital. He is the John B Henry Endowed Professor of Experimental Pathology and Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs in the College of Medicine. He is an emeritus member of the New York State Board for Medicine. Dr. Corona is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in neuropathology, clinical informatics and anatomic pathology.
Dr. Corona has held many leadership positions throughout his career in academic medicine and industry including University Chief Innovation Officer, Chair of Pathology/Laboratory Medicine, and President of the University Faculty Practice (UUMAS). He held the position of Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical and Scientific Affairs at Welch Allyn, Inc. for 10 years and Medical Director for 6 years. Prior to joining Welch Allyn, he was Physician Director of Medical Informatics, Laboratory Informatics and Telemedicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Dr. Corona recently won the Onondaga County Medical Society 2023 Distinguished Service Award. He is the winner of the CNY Business Journal 2020 Outstanding Hospital Executive and was named to Becker’s Top 100 Academic Medical Center CEO’s to Know in 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2025. He is the recipient of the State University of New York President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, SUNY Upstate’s Best Teacher in the Residency Program and Best Teacher in the Pathology Course.
Dr. Corona recently founded the “Respect and Heal” initiative where he led the regional hospital CEOs in working together to combat workplace violence. Dr. Corona is twice chair of the United Way Community Giving Campaign at Upstate.
